Both men spoke of the achievements of many black men and women in America.
Tips to Help Academic Meets Run Smoothly
By Treva Dayton | Wednesday, February 10, 2010 11:46 AM
February is flying by, and we’ve already passed the deadline for setting up academic and One-Act Play district meets. Although we are still dealing with a few instances of incorrect information, meets are now posted on the UIL Web site. Contact information for regional hosts is also available online, and we will post links to the regional handbooks in the near future. Regional academic meets are April 22-24, with almost all academic events except OAP being held on April 24 and/or 25.

Looking Forward… in the Computer Applications Contest
By | Wednesday, February 10, 2010 10:44 AM
Being directly linked to Microsoft Office, the Computer Applications Contest must change as this application package changes. As students graduate into the workplace or into college, they are better prepared to succeed with the current skills of Office 2007, which has already been in the marketplace for more than three years, rather than tethered to Office 2003, which is seven years old. Seven years is a long time in an environment based on technology.

It’s Time to Rethink the Prescribed Music List Revision Process
By Richard Floyd | Tuesday, January 12, 2010 11:56 AM
As most of you probably know by now the University Interscholastic League is celebrating its 100th Anniversary during the 2009-2010 school year. Music has been a member of the UIL family for better than 60 of those years. As I have looked back at our history it has been interesting to see how some things have changed dramatically while others have remained static for decades.
Looking for new ideas for the next 100 years

As you might have noticed, UIL is observing its 100th anniversary this year, which reminds me: if you haven’t purchased a copy of Bobby Hawthorne’s history of the League, you absolutely must.
At any rate, in preparing for the various celebrations, I find myself reflecting on the UIL and, specifically, the journalism contests.
