Documentation Ruling: IMDb.COM
The UIL State Office has made an official ruling that the online site, IMDb.com, will not be accepted as proper documentation for oral interpretation contests due to the following:
- The site allows anyone with a login to submit information to be edited.
- When the site staff is verifying the edits, they state they prefer Internet sources (i.e., Wikipedia, which is another ineligible source for UIL).
- The site is for and by movie fans, and is not meant to be an academic record.
- The site provides no citation of the biographical information posted.
- The site does not meet the “Quality of Documentation on the Internet” standards set forth in the official UIL Prose & Poetry Handbook, page 64.
- The site does not meet the Internet Documentation standards prescribed on page 56 of the official UIL Prose & Poetry Handbook.
