FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Tuesday to hand down decisions on eligibility of student-athletes and make an official interpretation of reclassification and realignment policy.

Student athletes from Schertz Clemens, Prosper, and Corpus Christi Flour Bluff were denied their appeals for varsity eligibility. After hearing testimony from all interested parties, it was ruled that the student-athletes changed schools for athletic reasons.

An appeal for eligibility from a Freeport Brazosport student-athlete was granted, ruling the student eligible to participate in varsity competition this year.

In new business, the Committee made an official interpretation of reclassification and realignment policy in regards to the classification of charter schools.

The State Executive Committee granted a request from Dallas Triple A Academy to elevate its boys basketball program to Conference 3A for the 2013-14 school year. Based on this decision, the Dallas Triple A Academy boys basketball team will participate in district 11-3A.

The rule change passed by the Council last October, states that a charter school physically located in a school district with three or more high schools will have its classification determined by placing it in the conference of the lowest enrolled school from that independent school district.

As part of State Executive Committee responsibilities, provided in Section 26 of the UIL Constitution & Contest Rules, the Committee shall provide independent and impartial direction of the League by interpreting the Constitution & Contest Rules.
