AUSTIN, TX- Beginning with the 2006-07 school year, six-man football districts will be divided into two divisions based on enrollments after a majority of six-man superintendents surveyed voted in favor of the change.

In October, the Legislative Council of the UIL voted to add an additional champion in Six-Man football based on the current two-division format in Conferences 2A-5A. The Legislative Council then authorized the UIL staff to survey six-man superintendents across the state regarding the change.

Based on the majority vote by six-man superintendents, the six-man football districts will be divided into two separate divisions based on enrollment, with approximately half the number of six-man schools in each division. The schools would be grouped into districts with schools from the same division. The top two teams in each district in Division I (large schools) would advance to the playoffs and compete for the Division I state championship and the top two teams in each district in Division II (small schools) would do the same for the Division II state champion. This format would be similar to the current format used in Conference 1A basketball districts.

The new six-man football alignments with the two divisions will be released February 2, 2006 along with all other UIL Reclassification and Realignment information.
