As of May 1, there’s a new face at the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation.

Trudy Richards, previously a member of the UIL Academic Department, is now the TILF Scholarship Coordinator.

Her experience with the League started as an elementary-school competitor and continued as a competitor in high school, a League intern in college and a UIL journalism coach while teaching seniors at Manor High School.

“Some of my greatest memories as a student involve UIL,” Richards said. “Participating in academic competitions increased my confidence and determination and taught me to work well with others. As a teacher, I also saw the positive impact of UIL participation on my students.”

Following her time in the classroom, Richards obtained a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and worked with teachers to improve instruction.

“Access to quality education is important to me, and this position allows me to help students who are sometimes overlooked find ways to finance their schooling,” Richards said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to increase the visibility and funding of TILF so that we can be even more effective.”

When not working, Richards enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and three young children, who she is certain will be UIL participants when they are old enough. She loves being around water, whether snorkeling, kayaking or swimming, and spends much of her free time in one of the many rivers and creeks throughout Central Texas.

“TILF is extremely fortunate to have Trudy Richards as its new scholarship coordinator,” TILF Secretary Dr. Bill Farney said. “Her background, previous work experience and her passion for educational opportunities for Texas youth forecast an exciting future for this foundation.”
