At the October UIL Legislative Council meeting, the Council elected Dr. Linda Henrie, superintendent of Mesquite ISD, to serve as the Chair for this term. Her vice chairs are Alton Frailey, superintendent of Katy ISD, and David Foote, superintendent of Dalhart ISD.

Henrie, who joined the Council in 2004, said she hopes that she will be a positive influence on the Legislative Council.

“The Council has a tradition of strong leadership from outstanding staff and Council membership,” Henrie said. “My goal is to continue that and build upon the many successes that have already been achieved.”

Because she’s well-versed in UIL policies and procedures Henrie will do an outstanding job, said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt.

“Dr. Henrie is representative of some of the finest school people in Texas,” Dr. Breithaupt said. “We’re very pleased that her peers have elected her to serve in this role.”

Dr. Breithaupt said that since the Texas Legislature will be in session during her term, Henrie will have to keep legislative issues in mind.

“It’s important to have someone who is very astute about legislative issues,” Breithaupt said. “She’s well suited to serve in this area.”

Henrie said her goal as Council Chair is to continue to provide high quality service to students, teachers and schools.

“UIL provides many opportunities to students in academics, athletics and fine arts,” Henrie said. “We want to be certain that we provide the service and support needed to help our students be successful and enjoy high-quality competitive events.”

Henrie serves on multiple boards of directors and is a past president of the Texas Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.

“One of my goals has always been continuous improvement and learning,” Henrie said. “Each experience I have had throughout my career has been beneficial to my professional development.”

Dr. Rick Reedy, last term’s Legislative Council chair and current superintendent of Frisco ISD, said that Henrie is professional, a great listener and knowledgeable in all facets of school activities.

“Her inclusive leadership style and overarching interest in student success will serve the Legislative Council extremely well in the coming year,” Reedy said. “We who serve on the Council are indeed fortunate to have her taking the reins as Chairperson.”
