FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX — The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Wednesday to hand down decisions on eligibility of student-athletes, an appeal of an ejection from a contest and make official interpretations on UIL rules.

Student-athletes from San Marcos High School, Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial High School, Duncanville High School and Lewisville Hebron High School were denied their appeals for varsity eligibility, upholding the previous decisions of the district executive committees.

Appeals for varsity eligibility from College Station High School, Galena Park North Shore High School and Cedar Hill High School student-athletes were granted. After hearing testimony from all parties it was determined that the students did not change schools for athletic purposes.

In other action, West Ridge Middle School coach Armando Vazquez was denied his appeal of an ejection from a contest. Vazquez was placed on one year of probation, issued a public reprimand and will be required to complete additional training.

In new business, the Committee made official interpretations of UIL rules determining eligibility for UIL participation for students attending school district charter high schools and international baccalaureate schools.

As part of State Executive Committee responsibilities, provided in Section 26 of the UIL Constitution & Contest Rules, the Committee shall provide independent and impartial direction of the League by interpreting the Constitution & Contest Rules.
