AUSTIN, TX— The University Interscholastic League will honor Southlake Carroll on Friday, August 29 for its 2014 Class 5A UIL Lone Star Cup victory. The Lone Star Cup trophy presentation will take place prior to Southlake Carroll’s football game against Austin Westlake High School at Dragon Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
“The UIL Lone Star Cup honors the best overall academic, athletic and music programs in the state of Texas,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “It takes contributions from every student, teacher and coach in all facets of UIL competition to win this outstanding award. The winning schools and communities should be proud of this incredible achievement.”
With state championships in boys and girls cross country and boys swimming and diving, a state runner-up in girls swimming and diving, and a state semifinalist team in volleyball, Southlake Carroll earned 115 total Lone Star Cup points for the 2013-14 school year. The Dragons also earned points in UIL academics, football, girls basketball, girls and boys soccer, boys golf, softball and baseball. This is the fifth UIL Lone Star Cup victory for Southlake Carroll.
The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to five high schools, one in each of the five UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. The winning schools in each classification receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship, also presented by the UIL. UIL Assistant Athletic Director Peter Contreras will be on hand to make the presentation.
The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
