FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The UIL Legislative Council, as well as the Legislative Council Standing Committees on Academics, Athletics, and Policy will convene June 11 and 12, 2007 in Austin. The standing committees are the first step in the process to add or change current UIL rules and policies.

The full Legislative Council will meet at 7:30 p.m., on Monday June 11 at the Sheraton Hotel in Austin.

The Academic Committee will convene at 9 a.m. in the second floor meeting room of the UIL office. The Athletic Committee will convene at 9 a.m. in the first floor meeting room, and the Policy Committee will meet in the same room following the Athletic Committee at 1 p.m.

An agenda for Monday night’s full Council meeting follows.
  1. Senate Bill 82: Safety Regulations for Public School Extracurricular Activities
  2. Senate Bill 7: Instruction in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Availability of Automated External Defibrillators
  3. Senate Bill 8: Random Testing of High School Students for Steroid Use
  4. Coaches Education Presentation
  5. Realignment Possibilities
  6. UIL/TAKS Calendar Issues
  7. Private School Request for Admission
  8. Additional Discussion Items

Scheduled to speak at the Athletic Committee meeting on Tuesday include representatives from the Texas High School Coaches Association, Texas Girls Coaches Association, Texas Association of Sports Officials, Texas High School Athletic Directors Association and the National Federation of State High School Associations.

The Policy Committee will hear proposals Tuesday regarding wheelchair track, in addition to any proposals referred to them from the Standing Committee on Athletics.

All meetings are open to the public and all interested parties are invited to attend.
