FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Austin, TX – The University Interscholastic League and State Farm have agreed on a two-year partnership for all of their high school championship series events for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 school years.

As a part of this alliance, all Texas public high school championship level events (academics and athletics) will be a identified as part of the UIL/Texas High School Championships presented by State Farm.  This series encompasses all 23 athletic Championship Events governed by the UIL and the State Academic Meet.

As one aspect of its commitment to academics as well as athletics, State Farm will be contributing $ 50,000.00 to the UIL’s Texas Interscholastic League Fund scholarship program as a part of this sponsorship.  The Texas Interscholastic League Foundation (TILF) was established in 1954 as a way to recognize and reward those students who competed in the UIL Academic State Meet, and assist them in funding their college education. Since its inception, the TILF has awarded over 21 million dollars in scholarships to Texas students who attend Texas public colleges and universities.

“State Farm is proud of not only its role with the athletic components of the UIL, but we are particularly pleased to be associated with the Academic Sponsorship of the TILF scholarships.” Ronnie Vandiver, TITLE of State Farm said, “We recognize the dedication, effort, and excellence each of the young scholars and athletes possess to make it to the level of State Championships.  We compliment the students and families who make their endeavors a reality.”

Mr. Vandiver went on to say that involvement with the UIL athletic and academic championships is a wonderful way for State Farm to compliment the students and families on their successes.

“This partnership is a reflection of the desire of the UIL to celebrate the students that excel in the classroom and the playing fields around Texas,” Dr Bill Farney, UIL Director said, “We are extremely pleased to have one of our longest and most dedicated partners involved with us to this degree.”

As part of this new agreement, State Farm will utilize many of its over 1400 agents throughout Texas  to attend, interact, and participate at various levels of all the UIL Championship events throughout the school year.
