FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, TX— The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League handed down decisions on the eligibility of student-athletes and issued penalties to coaches for violations of UIL rules on Wednesday.

Student-athletes from Frisco Wakeland High School and Conroe Oak Ridge High School were denied their appeals for varsity eligibility upholding the previous rulings of the district executive committees. After hearing testimony from all interested parties, it was ruled that the student-athletes changed schools for athletic reasons.

In other action, a student-athlete from Laredo Martin High School had their appeal to regain varsity eligibility granted after the committee ruled that the student-athlete did not change schools for athletic reasons.

Richardson Berkner High School coach Rod Wright was issued a public reprimand, placed on probation for two years and suspended from coaching for one year for violation of Sections 51(a)(6) and (10) and 1209(f)(1) of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules. He will be suspended from coaching until August 22, 2012.

Little Elm High School coach Derrick Osborne was issued a public reprimand, placed on probation for two years and suspended for two district games for violation of Section 1208(j), ejection from a contest, while on probation.

Additionally, Kountze High School coach Duane Joubert, Austin Travis High School coach Jessie Riojas, Spring Branch Smithson Valley High School coach Rob Casselberry and El Maton Tidehaven High School coach Patrick Talbert were issued public reprimands and placed on probation for one year after the committee denied their appeals for violation of Section 1208(j), ejection from a contest.
