FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUSTIN, Texas – The five winners of the 2012-13 UIL Lone Star Cup were announced Monday.

Southlake Carroll High School won its fourth overall and second consecutive UIL Lone Star Cup racking up 122 total points, which is tied for the third highest score ever. The boys and girls Dragon cross country and swimming and diving teams each took home state championships while the girls soccer team finished the year as the state runner-up.

With the highest point total ever in school history, Cedar Park High School captured its first-ever UIL Lone Star Cup victory. The reigning Conference 4A marching band state champion also captured its first football state championship, was state runner-up in boys golf and had a state semifinalist girls soccer team.

Argyle High School’s excellence in academic, athletic and music competitions propelled it to the top of the UIL Lone Star Cup standings for the second year in a row and fourth time overall. The Eagles won state championships in academics and marching band, earned a state runner-up finish in boys golf and made it to the state semifinals in volleyball.

After a late season rise in the standings, Salado High School captured its second Conference 2A UIL Lone Star Cup win. The Eagles excelled in the spring winning state championships in academics and girls golf, finishing third at state in one-act play and boys golf, and advancing to the state semifinals in baseball.

With state championships in softball and boys golf, Weimar High School ascended to the top of Conference 1A winning the second UIL Lone Star Cup in school history. The Wildcats also placed third at state in girls golf and were state semifinalists in baseball.

The UIL Lone Star Cup recognizes five high schools (one in each of the five UIL classifications) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned athletic and academic championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included for contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup. Trophy presentations will take place in the fall at events chosen by the winning schools.

The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
